Factor-5, Hypertension

Think about it

My friend (38 years) lost his job at a silicon-valley company during the depression in USA in 2010. He was highly stressed, he had zero financial back up and had a lot of loans on his head (house EMIs, children study loans etc) Finding a job was very tough those days. The stress built up in his body and took a toll on his breathing pattern. It was one fine day that he had gone to play in the garden with his daughter that he fell down unconscious and was rushed to the hospital.

His blood pressure had shot up to 210/120, compared to a healthy blood pressure of 120/80. He was then diagnosed with high blood pressure and was put on medications to ensure a healthy life.

Think about it

It was a December evening in 2020, when my cousin’s son (35 years old), called me to check that he had been facing issues like headaches, gastric issues and a couple of incidents of breathlessness a few times in a week. The first question which came to my mind was whether his blood pressure was fine and if he had got his heart tests done?

On further enquiry, he said that he was yet to visit a doctor and he had called me for advice. I immediately asked him to do his blood tests, heart tests etc. and get back to me as soon as possible.

What I feared was true, he had been facing blood pressure related issues which had a inadvertent impact on his heart too. I put him on medications straight away and asked him to make lifestyle changes.

I have seen that younger adults in India and USA are suffering from hypertension at young age of 30-45 years. Lifestyle changes, constant stress, lack of physical exercise etc are few causes which can lead to such situations. Being mindful is very important even for younger generation.

High blood pressure

Well, it is hard to believe the data but that data says one out of every 3 grown-up more than 20 years old has hypertension in the United States and it is pretty much same in men and women. It is so important to treat the high blood pressure

If we do not treat it, we are going to have a heart attack. We can have stroke. Our kidney may be damaged and we can have heart failure too.

If we like it or not, but we have to maintain Our normal resting blood pressure, upper number 120 and lower number 80, 120/80.
